I met Jaci a couple years ago when her sister was a #kateSEEN senior model for my studio and actually got to photograph her during her families session that year as well.
It is always fun to photograph siblings especially when you might have met them a few years before. It is also probably one of the biggest compliments I can receive as I know that the families were happy with their first experience with me.
Jaci knew she wanted her session to have a little bit of a mix of backgrounds. The first location we went to showed the fall colors and leaves on the ground with some awesome lighting to play with. Since it was in the fall there wasn't as many bugs to deal with which was a plus! We did have to deal with a little wind as there isn't much blocking the wind at a lake, but we made it work. Sometimes a little wind in senior pics can be fun and a little Beyonce like!
Photographing Jaci was a photographers dream - she is able to have these perfect expressions when you talk with her and direct her in how you want her to pose. Her natural resting face was just as beautiful as her big smile. That isn't always easy for high school seniors. Heck, it isn't easy for anyone! Talking to my clients especially my seniors, I start to get them to loosen up, feel comfortable and just be themselves. I want their senior session to be something they remember as an awesome experience. Make them feel as beautiful as they are. In the days of selfies and social media we tend to judge ourselves so much harder than in my teenage years. Of course, I want them to have amazing images that they can look back on - but its really the experience we remember.
When my seniors come in for their consultation, I want them to tell me exactly what they want. They may not know exact locations, but they can describe what they are looking for. Once I know, I can give suggestions and have them go look at a few places prior to their session. As a photographer, I want to maximize your senior session with as much shooting time as possible rather than driving to a bunch of different locations. Finding a location that offers multiple backdrops is really a must for me! Jaci and her mom loved the idea of a little location in Wahoo that I have used in prior sessions that offers just that. I actually find different little spots each time I take a high school senior to this location. We can scope and shoot within a short distance and as a photographer I never get bored with little fun finds like this! The day of Jaci's shoot we spotted a blue truck and Jaci just happened to have a perfect top to wear while we posed her on it and that became one of everyone's faves.
