Closet Organization
Have you ever wanted to organize your closet? But you don’t know how to get started? Did you binge the Netflix series, The Home Edit? Yeah me too. Here are some tricks I learned from the show that helped me get organized:
-
The first step:
-
Take all of your clothes out of your closet and throw them on your bed. Yep, every single piece of clothing.
-
Make three separate piles. Keep pile, donate pile, and a throw away pile. When going through your clothing, be honest with yourself. Ask yourself questions like, Have I ever worn this? Am I going to wear this? Does this fit me? Is this trend over? Asking these questions will help you decide on what pile to place the clothing items in. If you absolutely love something then keep it, but if you don’t feel 100% confident in it, but it is in good condition go ahead and throw it in the give it away pile. If it has holes or stains you can throw it in the “working in the yard” pile if you actually work in your yard or if you are like me, just toss it.

Let’s get organized:
a. There are a few ways that you can organize your clothing. The first way is by the kind of clothing item. Group all of the tank tops together, group all of the t-shirts together, group all of the dresses together, group of the blouses together, and group all of the sweaters together.
b. Another way is to organize by season. So, warm months on one side of your closet and cooler months on the other side of your closet. If you want to take it a step further you can organize the clothes that are specific for each season. Spring clothes in a group, summer clothes in a group, fall clothes in a group, and winter clothes in a group.
c. A way that I like to organize my closet is by color. Use the ROYGBV (rainbow order) color scheme for your closet. For example, group all of your greens together. They can be different shades and tints of green but just keep the greens in a group.
Now when you have all of the rainbow colors organized, you should have blacks, whites, tans and greys left. Repeat the steps with these colors as well!

Don’t forget the accessories!
-
If you have a lot of shoes there are multiple ways to organize them too. Go through the first and second step from above.
-
Then group them into different types of shoes. For example tennis shoes, boots, sandals, heels, and so on.
-
Get yourself a shoe organizer to help reduce cluttered space. There are many types of shoe organizers. My faves are the wooden racks that can sit at the bottom of your closet. I feel like I can see all of my shoes better with these. You can also get cloth shoe organizers that hang between the clothes if floor space is an issue. The cloth organizers can also be used as a separator for your clothes which is a bonus.
There can also be tricks in helping organize your other accessories.
-
Scarves can be organized by color, material, type (infinity or normal), is there a pattern or are they solid color. Also to help with your scarves, get yourself a scarf tree. A scarf tree is an organic shape that has holes in it to pull your scarves through. Some even have a hanger on the top so you can hang it up in your closet to get it out of your way.
-
Jewelry can be organized in multiple ways too. Necklaces can be hung up on command hooks or you can buy organizers that hold necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Group your necklaces by lengths, chain size, big pendant, dainty, and color. Grouping them like this will make them a lot easier to find and they won’t get super tangled.
If you need some help getting started with your organizing, I suggest checking out the Home Edit or The Container Store...or if you are like me, go and check out both!
There are so many different kinds of closets. Some closets are moveable and can be moved to different spots in the bedroom. There are other closets that have no doors but have cubbies attached to the sides for more storage. There are also the more common ones where they are in the wall and can be hidden by doors or curtains. Whichever kind of closet you have, keep it organized. Being able to open that curtain or door and see everything at your fingertips makes for a much easier and calmer way to start your day.
