What to wear for my session?
I feel like these days I am always in a sweatshirt and jeans. Rarely am I putting on makeup unless I know I have a consultation on zoom. I have never really been a dress up girl. My first career as a stage manager I wore black. All black. All the time. Which is probably why black is my go to color still.
I just recently had my headshots updated by a good friend here in Wahoo, Amber Lihs. Though I wanted to wear more of my brand colors which is mainly red, I did sneak in an all black outfit. :). But I DID wear that red. Again, I knew I was using these images for my website and social media so I wanted to make sure to tie the colors all together. But you know what? I actually didn't have any red tops in my closet. Seriously. I was scrambling at the last minute to find a red...something. I was super lucky to find a beautiful top here in Wahoo at Husbands Approval Boutique. I was basically doing exactly the opposite of what I tell my clients when I am helping them prepare. I never want last minute outfit scouting from my clients and well there I was. I did have other outfits to wear and would have been totally fine with those choices, but that red. It is my favorite look out of all four looks that I had that day. I have definitely found my color. I guess I knew what I was doing when I chose my brand colors!
Whether you are wanting a romantic feel to your wardrobe or a glam rock feel...or both! You want to be you. Have fun with styles. This is the time to dance in the street and look beautiful while you twirl.
And for the guys, you might think you don't have many options, but YOU DO! You can suit up, be sporty, casual, sophisticated, and even rock.
Now, don't do what I did. Be prepared. My senior clients actually will probably get sick of me even before we shoot their session. I want them overly prepared for their session. So when the day comes they are ready. No surprises. No statements like "I know she is taking my pictures, but I'm not sure what else." My seniors get an entire electronic hub of information after they book. I have just updated with loads of info that I wish I had for my senior pics.
Make sure before you book your senior pics that your photographer is going to load you up with all sorts of guides from what to wear for you body type and skin tone, how to prepare and what to expect. Best advice I can give...tell your photographer what you want and make sure they are listening.
