Juliana has such a fun and unique style that shined through her photographs! I loved how she planned out each look and even added a bandana to one of her looks that gave it a retro vibe.
As I am nearing the end of blogging my 2020 sessions, it is crazy to me to think that we shot these a year ago as it only feels like a few months. Maybe with everything that has happened in the year of 2020, I am just wanting to go back to the time before we had the word "pandemic" come up in conversation everyday. It is weird to think that just a year ago was a little more of a simple time.
We did part of Juliana's session out at Lake Wanahoo. It was a very windy day and sometimes this can really be a pain with hair and clothing. We played around with it, taking it all in and utilizing it to our advantage as best that we could. Then I took Juliana to an area of the lake that we would be sheltered from the harsh wind so we could get a different looking background without worrying about her short hair blowing crazily.
Now how fun is this look?!? I loved that we could use her jacket as a prop, not at all or have Juliana wear it. So many different options with just one piece of clothing! Plus with that skirt and adding the bandana that her mom grabbed at Dollar General in Wahoo it just gave her look a retro vibe that I was in love with. High School senior sessions are about who you are today. I know a lot of seniors who don't just love one style and Juliana proved it and also was able to show off her different styles in one photo shoot.
If you stand in one spot and turn every which way, look up and down, left and right, you will find so many photo ops. Now, when I see cool locations, I also see how to pose a high school senior in that spot. I know photographers who just see that spot as a cool photo to frame in their lens. I am always thinking of people within an awesome environment. I also want to use up all of the spaces that I see. I could stand in one alley for 1 hour and probably still not get all of the photos with one person that I would want to photograph. This is really what I do when I am using a downtown space. Instead of walking all over to find the perfect spot, I am looking at the seniors outfit, lighting, dreaming up a pose and wanting to give a variety of shots in a short amount of time. One of my favorite things is to shoot a pose in 5 different ways without the senior moving at all or just slightly. If you notice in this last collage of Juliana, I did just that.
Juliana, you were a joy to work with! I am so glad to have met you and wish you all the best in your future!
