There is something about shooting a session in a new area. Everywhere you turn there is something fun and unique to use. Don't get me wrong, I do love knowing locations as well. Having spots that I shoot in knowing that the lighting will be right and having an idea of how I can pose a senior is always a good thing. I never want to be scrambling for spots and thinking "what should I do with you?" But, every once in awhile it is fun to go on a little scavenger hunt of an area.
That is exactly what I did with Anthony on the day of his photoshoot. I had never done a session in the area that he and his moms loved and did not have time to drive there prior and scout which if I can will do. Instead, I did use the technology of the internet and "walked" the streets on google. This gave me an idea of what was around and to have some spots in mind. I also relied on Anthony and his moms to show me locations that they had seen and were drawn towards.
Honestly, everywhere we turned there were nooks and crannies of awesome urban locations that Anthony wanted in his senior pics. I love finding doors and stairways that can be used for many different poses in one spot.
Murals on sides of buildings are always a super cool way to to bring something totally unexpected in a photo. These were very easy to find just in a block radius of one another so we could hop to each one and utilize the art that surrounded us.
Anthony has great style and showed this in each of his outfits. I loved the preppy look of the pink sweatshirt to the suede jacket with jeans and a t-shirt. Each look was head to toe Anthony which is one of the benefits of getting your senior photos taken. Showing all sides of your personality and style!
Finding random chairs next to a building as we walk an alley pre covid, heck why not?!? Now, I would probably be more cautious of what I use when walking an alley. But this little wooden chair worked great for some sitting shots without having to pose Anthony on the dirty ground.
Thank you to Anthony and his moms for trusting me with his senior pics in a location site unseen! Also for enduring the cold that the day brought. Eek!
