When I met Nicole and her mom at her senior consultation about 3 weeks prior to her senior session, she had a just a small idea of what she would like to wear and one location in Lincoln that she had her heart set on. During the meeting we chatted about what she likes and dislikes as far as outdoor locations and I gave them a few locations to go and scout. I was so excited on the location that they chose plus the park that Nicole already knew she wanted to be photographed at. She was then able to finalize her outfits now that she knew the settings.
This Nebraska summer day was extra windy! This is why I am so glad to always have makeup and hair artists along so they are not only doing touch ups, but they can teach the senior what to do with their hair without messing it all up. Having Stephanie with us to keep Nicole camera ready made these images look like we chose a day without any weather issues at all. I wish I had a behind the scene video of this day so you could see what we were actually dealing with!
This little area with the cute brick sidewalk plus the white brick building was a perfect spot to have Nicole sit, plus I always wonder if we get closer to the ground if it will be less windy? Getting different angles while my senior doesn't have to change poses for each shot is what I strive to get as many options for my senior to have. Getting low, middle and above are always in my head as I shoot.
Doesn't the blue just pop with her porcelaine skin and blonde hair? I thought this outfit was such a great choice to be able to have a little bit of an edgy, but still has the feel of being a feminine look as well.
Shooting at a park with beautiful evening lighting is my jam. :)
I could shoot a senior with the golden hour lighting each and every session. Though I do try to get the golden hour for part of a senior session, sometimes it just doesn't work out. It always depends on where you are shooting plus if it is a cloudy day, you may not get as good of the golden look. Sometimes we luck out and make some dreamy photos. When we arrived at the park, we actually didn't have much time before that sun would be gone. We stayed in one spot and changed up the looks by different posing and a quick outfit change. Having portable lighting is a must for shots like these so that you can get that beautiful natural lighting but still light your subject. Most of the time, moms become a lighting assistant when you shoot with me. It is kinda fun for them to see what the difference is between no lighting and then adding it in. It is difference between a pro and an amateur.
At the end of the shoot, I knew we had many awesome senior pictures for Nicole. But, that lighting was still calling to me. Even though, she is a little shy and timid in front of the camera, Nicole started to loosen up more as the session went on. So I just had her play a little for a few bonus pics. I told her not to worry about what her hair looked like and just run her fingers through her hair. These were some of her favorite shots!
