Everyone has been to a hotel or motel. But have you ever been to a themed hotel? Themed hotels have been super popular lately. Some themed hotels are run down and kind of brought back to life and some are still hanging on by a thread. So be cautious if you decide to make the adventure into themed hotels.
Many themed hotels were and still are made for romantic getaways and then there are the scary side of themed hotels like a clown theme. Themed hotels are becoming a thing that people go to for vacations or even just to stay one night if it is close to home. They can be found in theme parks, popular vacation destinations and are more popular in bigger cities.
There is an instagram account, @aprettycoolhoteltour, that I started following after watching many of their videos on Tik Tok. They find so many gems across the U.S. mainly on the east coast and midwest. Some finds are vintage hotels, themed hotels, and fantasy suites for the last several years. They have been documenting these places for a hobby and now get paid to do something they would do anyway. How fun is that?! Sometimes the rooms/hotels they stay in are clean and sometimes they stay in hotels where things might be a little iffy. But when your favorite attraction in the rooms is the heart shaped tub, you bring your own cleaner and get your inner Alice (Brady Bunch fans, anyone?) to spruce up that said tub. They have found themselves in a few locations that they don’t end up actually staying overnight. They get in their “tub talk” as they like to call it for their YouTube channel and some pics for Instagram of course and then head home if they are close or to another hotel.
Some of the hotels are all one theme and then other hotels have each room as a different theme. Visitors have many options when it comes to staying in a hotel that has a theme for each room. They can choose between rooms such as a fairytale, a princess castle, under water, in the jungle, a pink room, and a rainbow room.

The Madonna Inn in California is super cool. I photographed a wedding there for a friend some years back. Each room has a different theme, some of the themes are “Love Birds”, “Rocky Mountain”, and “Safari Room”. My cousin Ericia, who was my assistant for the wedding and I stayed in the “Oriental Room”. The rooms are so detailed it looks like you are in a different world.
On the scary side of hotel/motel themes, is one called Clown Motel. It is totally clown themed and kind of creepy. The rooms have unique paintings of clowns, clown figurines, clown lamps, bed sheets, and wall paper. People can actually stay at this motel and when they do, the people that work at the motel wear clown masks and could be hiding in your room when you first walk in after checking in. If you are scared of clowns this is not a place for you...or is it?
If you are not ready to try your luck with one of the old school themed hotels, but this blog is a little intriguing, test the waters at a very normal looking Best Western in Galena, IL. When you look through their website and at the outside of the building, it is your standard Best Western. But, when you look to book a room, you just might have to see the suites that they offer. The one I want to stay in is the Pearl Under The Sea Suite. When I do, I will give a detailed report.
Which hotel do you want to visit?
