5 tips to a successful headshot session
Being comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera will maximize your headshot session...but this is way easier said than actually doing it!
Believe me, I get it. I LOVE taking headshots for my clients who are looking to either update their social media, LinkedIn, and work website. Being in front of the camera, myself makes my palms sweaty. Seriously. So, yep, I totally get it!
Here are 5 key points to think about prior to your headshot session:
1. Clothing: What you wear will make or break your headshot. If you don't feel comfortable in your outfit, it will show in your headshot as you will be more worried about how the clothes look and feel instead of focusing on the actual photoshoot. Wear something you already own. If you do decide to buy something new, make sure to buy it at least 1 week in advance and have a friend or family member take photos of you (even on your phone) so that you are able to see how you look in pictures. Looking in the mirror is different than looking at a photo - trust me. :)
2. Take your time: When booking your session make sure you have allowed time to prep prior and also some buffer time afterwards. You do not want to feel rushed or worried about the time during your session. All of the focus should be on you and the headshot session.
3. Sleep & Water: A week leading up to your session, drink up all the water! You do not want your skin to look dry. Remember this is photo is focusing on your face. Let it glow. None of us get the sleep we need. The night before your session, try to get that full 8 hours so you are looking refreshed in front of the camera.
4. Reset your smile: Now that sounds goofy, right? Have you ever been in front of the camera for a group photo and you have to keep that big smile that feels like forever? When we smile for a long period time without a little break the smile will start to look fake. After a few shots, I will tell my client to relax just reset that smile to neutral for a few seconds.
5. Visualize: Think about what your ideal headshot will look like. Research other professional headshots to give you an idea of what you like and don't like.
I am now booking end of July and August dates as the calendar is filling up. Looking forward to seeing you in front of my camera!
