Happy 4th of July!
Can’t believe it is already the 4th of July weekend!
This past year has been rough, but it is holidays like this that help remind us how lucky we are. Celebrating our independence as a country is very important. Take a moment to be thankful for our freedom. Make it a habit to thank a soldier you might see in passing.
Almost everyone has some kind of plans for the 4th of July. Whether it is grilling, hanging out with family, watching fireworks, heading to a parade or joining a pool party. The past week, you might have been hearing some big booms. Those are indeed fireworks with some thunder mixed in! In Wahoo Nebraska fireworks can be sold 10 days prior to the 4th of July. Which means, the firecrackers begin at 10am that first day. At least in my neighborhood.
Like every year, Wahoo will have a bike parade at noon for any kid that wants to join. The kids are encouraged to decorate their bike, trike or wagon in red, white and blue. The parade is always a couple blocks that starts at the VFW and ends at Smith Park with hotdogs. This year there will also be old fashion games at Smith park starting at 2pm. The Wahoo pool always has some fun games for kids to participate in along with the regular swimming time. And we can’t forget about the fireworks! Fireworks are the staple entertainment for the 4th. It is amazing how colorful they can be and how huge they can get. Of course the town will be lit up all over plus the city fireworks will be displayed at Lake Wanahoo starting at 10pm. Please be considerate of neighbors and furry friends this weekend.
I don’t usually buy many fireworks, but when I do, I always buy them for their names. The funnier the name it will most likely go in my basket. When I was a kid, smoke bombs and those poppers were my go to favorites. I have never been a huge fan of the loud fireworks unless it has some colorful sparks to go along with it. I have really never understood fireworks without the prettiness. You won’t ever get me out of the house just to watch someone light a firework that only makes a loud BOOM.
Even if you do not live in Wahoo I am sure you can find plenty of activities to keep you busy or make a trip to my town! Check out your local paper or even look at your Chamber of Commerce website or Facebook page to see what is happening in your area.
Not only is it Independence Day, it is also my birthday! 43 is the number of candles I will be blowing out this year. As a kid, it was a fun time to celebrate my birthday. It usually worked out to have a party with my friends on July 3rd and July 4th celebrating with family. I was born at 5:32am and every year my friends and I would say this will be the year we will stay up until my official birth time. Though we stayed up pretty darn late, we never did make it to my birth time. Now a days, you will not find me trying to stay up all night. Bedtime isn’t so bad in your 40’s. :)
Whatever your plans are for this upcoming July 4th weekend, be safe!
